The Chap is a London/Berlin based band, that claims to make "wrong-sounding" music but in fact it doesn't sound wrong at all. By trying to make it sound "wrong" they put themselves in a niche, with not a lot of contemporaries. The album contains a lot of easy-listening songs, amongst one where the band wishes of someone's breakdown because they seem to hate that person. The background music is rather unusual and the vocals are twitchy and screamy, yet it does not seem to bother the end effect. Overall it seems like a band who is having fun making music and like going on tours once every 2 years and try not to think life can be hard or struggling.
The Chap // Nevertheless, The Chap
Grovesnor sounds a bit like a renewed Bob Seger, an updated Rupert Holmes. He makes classic pop tunes and does not often go outside his comfort zone. Perhaps because his music is truly comforting. Yet he doesn't seem to have had his breaktrough yet, perhaps he would be better of singing around the same era as Lionel Richie. His music is best with a good night full of relaxing, a glass of red wine and the wood crackling in the fire place. It is essential Rhythm & Blues, music to make love to.
