Time is on my side. Here in the humble estate of my parents. I've made the end list of this year, and it looks kind of dull, like most end lists do. I must say it doesn't include all the remixes and everything else like unofficial releases. But they are the twenty most enjoyed albums by me, and probably that doesn't say much to you. Anyhow, as I am in need of some sort of attention I'd like to throw it all out there in the open world.(1) Late Of The Pier // Fantasy Black Channel
Absolutely the number one of this year, gave away a splendid showcase and it's wonderful to see how such young chaps can produce this load of good music and I surely hope they will go on until they're as old as my gran.
(2) Metronomy // Nights Out
Proven to be not just a one-hit wonder, but genuinely a cool band with music that makes you dream of romances you foretold being unimaginable.
(3) Rubies // Explode From The Center
Felt rather disappointed when I wasn't able to see their show in a place near me. However their album has given me much joy and it surely turns around your bad mood into rosemary blossom.
(4) Lykke Li // Youth Novels
How some people like to call this the most overrated album of the year I like to refer to it as a profound way to practice your singing skills and find ways to your inner emotions, be it the sad or happy ones.
(5) Hercules & Love Affair // Self Titled
Definitely a mustsee for next year if you haven't done that already, makes you feel a bit like you're in the circus except for the clown music. You have your drag, your tomboy and a younger version of Elton John. Making history that is.
(6) Hot Chip // Made In The Dark
We all know Hot Chip is the Kraftwerk of our time, but when a new album of the guys come out you expect it to be your number one. However they've let me down on their solo work, their other productions this year makes you hold your trust and look out to forthcoming music. (7) Gonzales // Soft Power
Gonzales I would describe as a man hard to understand, but unlike his previous work this work is a bit more available for the big public. He seems to unravel the mysterious of love and if you hear his voice on a set of strings or just with the echo of a bathroom: it's all good.
(8)Jamie Lidell // Jim
Whoever is not amused by the presence of this man, is just a fucking unsocial retard. You just have to love him. He has so much soul he could easily fit into one of Michael Jackson's latex suits.
(9) Friendly Fires // Self titled
One of the bands I did not listen right away, but after hearing 'Paris' and 'On board' just had to hear more, and for a fact they don't disappoint.
(10) Does If Offend You, Yeah? // You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into
Last of the top 10, but sure as hell not a bad one. All tracks are in someway related to a level of chaos and noise, maybe on their next album they will outbalance it more to an extraordinairy piece.
Of course it's hard to decide which 10 are the best of the year, and of course it will vary from time to time and I haven't listened to all of what's out there so here are another 10 in short:
Mr. Oizo // Lambs Anger
Yeasayer // All Hours Cymbals
Gang Gang Dance // Saint Dymphna
Rex The Dog // Rex The Dog Show
Heartthrob // Dear Painter, Paint Me
M83 // Saturdays = Youth
Antony & the Johnsons // Another World
Lützenkirchen // Pandorra Electronica
Mystery Jets // Twenty One
Adele // 19
Best wishes!
